Cisco StackWise-160 technology builds upon the highly successful StackWise technology, renowned for its premium stacking architecture. In a StackWise-160 setup, the stack functions as a unified switching unit managed by an "active" switch, elected by the member switches. The active switch also designates a standby switch within the stack. All switching, routing, and wireless information is created and updated by the active switch, which continuously synchronizes this data with the standby switch.
Should the active switch encounter a failure, the standby switch seamlessly takes over as the active switch, ensuring uninterrupted operation of the stack. Throughout this switchover, access points remain connected, maintaining network continuity.
A working StackWise-160 stack can easily incorporate new members or remove existing ones without any service interruption. This technology enables the creation of a highly resilient single unified system of up to nine switches. It simplifies management by offering a single IP address, a single Telnet session, a single CLI, and features such as auto-version checking, auto-upgrading, and auto-configuration.
